Tachograph administration is one of the most important tasks for road freight and passenger transport operators (arguably the most important in terms of fines!), as regulations strictly require the recording of driving, rest, and working times, as well as the regular download and retention of driver card and tachograph data, ensuring that tachograph use is verifiable. Faulty administration can result in significant fines.
Even if one assumes that administration is unimportant or unnecessary, the regulations are very specific about how, for example, to use the mode switch, which data must be manually recorded on a digital tachograph, how discs must be annotated with data, how printouts are handled, and so on. These are easily verifiable tasks, and sanctions for violations or omissions are clear and severe.
